Put it this way though, I'd rather listen to some Lil Jon than some Lil Wayne. And that's not one of those cheap shots at Lil Wayne, I've given him a chance. Even though a lot of people think he was talented around the Carter 1 & 2, I still don't think he was GREAT. Of course if you compare his older work to what we have today then it'd come across as a master piece because the Lil Wayne we've got in 2014 is a burned out baboon in skinny jeans (to quote MK). But Rebirth, The Carter 3 & 4 and all those Dedication Mixtapes were absolute garbage. Same with Drake. I used to find his older stuff OK. Like some I could get with but he's too influenced by RnB. Especially after his obsession with Aaliyah, her music seems to have brushed off his a lot.

But yeah, Hip Hop goes further than YMCMB. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a casual Hip Hop fan or they're too lazy to find artists they actually like that are around today but it'd be wrong to not question why Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Tyga, 2Chainz, Rick Ross (etc, etc, etc) are megastars when the fore-mentioned artists (Diabolic, Celph Titled, etc) are barely known. It's a shame.
Even though I wasn't alive when Wayne was putting out his older material AKA The Hotboyz I still think he was shit. I think he had ghostwriters & that's one of the problems I have with hip-hop today, rappers who can't rap plus we got fake gangsters who live the life of a real criminal (Rick Ross) & soft rappers who are always sensitive (Drake).

When the artist is true to themselves, no fabrications.

Edit: Actually I messed up on what I said, I mean when someone is real & talks about things that really occurred in their life instead of telling fake stories.

There is no real or fake hip hop. Hip hop is a culture.. there are elements to it. There's shitty rap and good rap which could be either maintream or independent artists. Depends on the person though. But its all needed.

Real hip hop to me is when the concept, and topic of the music is not the same ol shit being repeated over, and over in rhymes. J.cole that's real hip hop, jay-z that's real hip hop, nas, shiit the people that you listen too is real hip hop if you consider it that. Real hip hop is what I think it is, it's what you think it is, it can't be my own personal opinion alone on what i ghink it is, bcuz you may not like what I like, I may not like what you like, I may not like the artist i named, but at the same time, i know when the music have substance, and is creative, and I respect it.

I guess to give a better example to what I think real hip hop is, it's when a artis can stay true to themselves, have their own lane, an not just sound like what he/she think is popular at the moment. I think this mash up of genres is a very bad idea mixing pop with rap with too much R&B, to me it is, everybody else may fuckin love it. Back to what I think real hip hop is, I kind of went off about what it's not a little again but, sorry about that, but I think rap today strayed off from how it was back in the 80's, the 90's, and it's artist still staying true to that, bcuz things have kind of got weird, and people can say well y'all are stuck in the 80's and 90's, and it's a new day it's 2014, things change, an to me I think it changed for the worst, but salute to artist that's really spitting, and diverse.

Problem is every topic has been repeated over and over even the stuff j Cole raps about

as for the mixing of genres, you guys gotta understand, hip hop has always mixed with other genres since the beginning whether it was the Beastie Boys and run dmc with rock, the whole Zulu nation with jazz, ll cool j with some R&B or even snoop and dre with funk. Pac did sample prince and Stevie Wonder. I'm sure everyone here likes keep your head up(if you don't, kill yourself) but that's a mix of r&b soul. It's a sampling genre, always was since the beginning.

I do agree with the diverse problem but that problem can be fixed by looking beyond the radio. The radio only plays the artist that sells because they in fact sell. They don't want to take risk cause the radio is dying basically and they only going to play what they think we like. If they look at the numbers and Drake is going platinum but nas is only going 300,000 who do you think they are going to play more. That's where the fans are the problem. Kendrick got 5 million fans but his album only sold 1 million

Nah i don't think so but digital sales isn't going to increase that number much. I meant more by that statement tho. I'm just saying a ton of fans don't buy albums anymore

me personally i've started to fade out of the new rap music - there are maybe a couple i like from wiz khalifa , might be just my age or listening to that genre to begin with 90's to early 00's was awesome times to be cranking the sounds , hell even tech n9nes new stuff hasn't made me go an buy the cd. new generation of rap has emerged.

i joined this site to read stories or see new info or footage bout 2pac which has been awesome thanks and sorry for not been part of the new era of rap
